The written records exist which proves that the puzhakkal temple is more than 1700 years old,where glory throbes of sri dharma sastha and lord ayyappa.The foremost among the kshathriyas (pumgavas) were self-mortified at that place.Many of the mamuni’s were penance at this thick forest devoting dharma sastha.One day this place legibles two small icon like shivalingas.North exists the sri dharma sastha and south exists his consort.For deducting the remaints of ashtabandhakalasa and for leveling the ground ,the mining process continued.Lastly it determines that the two icons were formed from one stone.

Administration of temple was taken by the tamil brahmins,so those who devoted the lord with great heart have long life and happiness are predicted by the pooja.The people were frightened the last fire explosion ,so they conducted the ashtamangalya pooja and done the corrective measures.Afterwards the beautiful temple and the related backyards were constructed .In this temple vigneswaran,bhadrakali,durga bagavathi,nagarajav ,brahmarakshass are sub dieties.

Dharma sastha live with his consort,so that the poojas related with marriage gives happiness to the lord.And also likes the life with penance.The prominent abhishekas are done with water,balsom,ghee,tender coconut, milk, panchagavyam, flowers. Vilakk with ghee andoil, mala, swayamvara pushpanjali, santhanasuktham, saraswatham, neeranjanam, ezhuthiniruthal, neypayasam, panchasarapayasam, ottayappam are the important poojas. Here all the poojas are done with penance and the surroundings are always neat.

ധർമ്മശാസ്താവിന്റെയും ശ്രീ അയ്യപ്പസ്വാമിയുടെയും പൂർണ ചൈതന്യം സ്ഫുരിക്കുന്ന പുഴയ്ക്കൽ ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു ആയിരത്തിഎഴുനൂറിലധികം കൊല്ലത്തെ പഴക്കമുള്ളതായി തെളിയുന്നു. അന്ന് മഹർഷി പുംഗവന്മാർ തപസ്സു ചെയ്തിരുന്ന കൊടും കാട് ആയിരുന്നു ഈ സ്ഥലം ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താവിനെ ഭജിച്ചു തപസ്സു ചെയ്തിരുന്ന മാമുനിക്കു ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താവ് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ട സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ ആണ് ശിവലിംഗം പോലെ രണ്ടു ചെറിയ സ്വയംഭൂവിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ പ്രത്യക്ഷപെട്ടതെന്നു അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. വടക്കേത് ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താവും തെക്കേത് പത്നിയുമാണ്. മുൻപ്‌ നടന്ന ഒരു അഷ്ടബന്ധകലശ സമയത്തു ബിംബമാലിന്യങ്ങൾ നീക്കുന്നതിനും അടിഭാഗം മണൽ ഇട്ടു ഉയർത്തുന്നതിനും വേണ്ടി കൂടുതൽ കുഴിച്ചു നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ ഈ രണ്ടു ബിംബങ്ങളും ആഴത്തിലേക്ക് നീങ്ങും തോറും ഒറ്റശിലയിൽ നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുന്നത് പോലെ (ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം കാണാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കിലും ) ആണെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. രണ്ടും ഒന്നെന്നു ബിംബ പ്രകൃതയിലും സ്പഷ്ടമാക്കുന്നു.

തമിഴ് ബ്രാഹ്മണർ പോലും ക്ഷേത്രാധിപത്യം വെച്ച് പുലർത്തിയിരുന്നു എന്നും ഭക്തി പൂർവം ഭഗവാനെ സേവിച്ച അവർക്കെല്ലാം സർവ്വായുരാരോഗ്യ സമൃദ്ധിയും ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നുവെന്നുമാണ് പ്രശ്ന വശാൽ തെളിഞ്ഞത്. മുൻപ് ഉണ്ടായ അഗ്നി ബാധമൂലം വാസ്തവത്തിൽ നാട്ടുകാരെല്ലാവരും തന്നെ വിഷണ്ണനായി തീരുകയും അഷ്ടമംഗല്യ പ്രശനം നടത്തി എല്ലാ പരിഹാരകർമ്മങ്ങൾക്കും തയ്യാറാകുകയും ചെയ്തു . തൽഫലമായി ഇന്ന് കാണുന്ന മനോഹരമായ ക്ഷേത്രവും പരിസരവും പടുത്തുയർത്തപെട്ടു .ഉപ ദൈവങ്ങളായ വിഗ്നേശ്വരൻ ഭദ്രകാളി ദുര്ഗ ഭഗവതി നാഗരാജാവ് ബ്രഹ്മ രക്ഷസ്സ് എന്നീ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്.

ധർമ്മശാസ്താവ് പത്നീ സമേതനായാണ് വാഴുന്നത് അതുകൊണ്ടു ക്ഷേത്ര സന്നിധിയിൽ വിവാഹാദികൾ നടത്തുന്നതിന് വേണ്ടിയുള്ള പൂജാദികളും ഭഗവാന് വളരെ ഇഷ്ടമാണ്.വ്രതനിഷ്ഠയോടു കൂടി സേവിക്കുന്നതും സന്തോഷമാണ് . ജലം തൈലം നെയ്യ് ഇളനീര് പാൽ പഞ്ച ഗവ്യം പുഷ്പം എന്നിവ കൊണ്ടുള്ള അഭിഷേകം സർവ്വാഭീഷ്ട പ്രദമാണ് .നെയ്യ് എണ്ണ എന്നിവ കൊണ്ടുള്ള വിളക്കു ,മാല സ്വയംവര പുഷ്പാഞ്ജലി , സന്താന സൂക്തം , സാരസ്വതം , നീരാഞ്ജനം, എഴുത്തിനിരുത്തൽ , നെയ്പായസം , പഞ്ചസാര പായസം , ഒറ്റയപ്പം , എന്നിവ ഏറ്റവും ഇഷ്ടപെട്ട വഴിപാടുകൾ ആണ് . ഇവയെല്ലാം ഏറ്റവും ശുദ്ധിയോടു കൂടി നടത്തുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രാങ്കണം സദാ ശുചിയായിരിക്കണമെന്നും നിഷ്കർഷിച്ചു വരുന്നു.
